We have put together an Amazon Storefront to make it easier for our students to get the necessary flight training supplies. This is our Top 10 items we suggest you purchase to help you learn to fly. Each item is an Amazon affliate link that means we earn from qualifying purchases. We also have a link to our Amazon Storefront that contains all the products we recommend for flight training - not just the Top 10.

Every flight you take has to be written down and accounted for. So the first item you will need is your pilots logbook. We recommend this standard affordable logbook from ASA.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has put together some impresive books on learning to flying. The first one to get is the Airplane Flying Handbook.

Don't worry you won't have to know this cover to cover to be a private pilot.

The flying handbook is about the hands on stuff - the Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge (PHAK for those in the know) is the ground portion of flying. This is the part that trips folks up. This book is full of tons of information not just about flying and how airplane's work but also the rules and regulations for flying in the United States.

Can't fall asleep? Try this wonderful book of Federal Regulations to help cure your insomnia. In all seriousness - this is a subset of the official laws pertaining to flying. For those private pilots - sections 1, 43, 61, 68, 91 and NTSB 830 are required reading.

Ground school is when we teach you what you need to know about flying - well on the ground. Ground school is four times longer then flying. So the best way to save money flying is by using an online ground school like Sporty's. You can use our code when you sign up on with the Learn to Fly Course. By using our code, our instructors will be able to track your progress and help you will any parts you are having difficulties with.

Our code is FLT10841 - you enter the code under Optional Order Information - Media Code

Planes are loud and noisy. Learning to fly is hard enough without struggling to hear your instructor, air traffic and controls and the planes around you. This link will give you the exact headset to purchase for our planes.

Before the days of Google Maps we had actual maps. While there are equivalent for flying is made possible by companies like ForeFlight, for training you should have a sectional.

Math is hard - the ASA CX-3 is the best flight computer on the market. It makes flight planning a heck of alot easier. We recommend this flight computer over all others.

Did you know that your private pilot exam is an open book test? Its based on a standard called the Airman Certification Standards (ACS for short). You can read all the details about what your exam will be like. You are strongly encouraged to know this small document from cover to cover.

You can't pilot and carry all the stuff around without a classic flight bag! We recommend flight outfitters to carry your books, maps and headset.
